OCEAN DEEP

It’s incredibly difficult to pinpoint what genre Buffalo-based producer Jack Magma fits into. With the release of his electrifying, sugary debut single “Cat Gotcha Tongue ?!?”, the likes of Justin Timberlake instantly came to mind. The second single from upcoming EP “An Electric Purple” instills calypso-like sounds, with a delectable guitar solo towards the end, accompanied by Magma’s blissful vocal performance and sweet production. Stream the superb, “SuperPowers” above…

Nabil Elderkin, more commonly known as just NABIL is one of our favourite music video directors, he’s worked with Kanye West, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Bon Iver, James Blake and has now penned the visuals to UK indie band Foals’ newest single “Bad Habit”. Taken from the commercially successful third studio album “Holy Fire”; watch lead singer Yannis Philippakis follow a ginger-haired woman across a dessert, into a vast space, dotted with palm trees and a giant cross (yes, that’s right, this video is seriously NSFW!)

Swoon over the delicious new track from Justin Vernon’s experimental pop project Volcano Choir’s upcoming album “Repave” (out 2/3 September). Bon Iver fans will most definitely enjoy “Byegone”, with its lush sonic beauty; a combination of inexplicably gorgeous vocals accompanied by some rustic yet heartwarming melodies. Reminisce over the stunning track above…

As promised, M.I.A. unleashed the annihilating, upbeat song, “Bring The Noize” on Zane Lowe a little under an hour ago. The killer record, taken from the long awaited album (now slated to drop later on this year) “Matangi” is now streaming on the artist’s SoundCloud. Also, check out the beautiful artwork below, it’s spectacular!

M.I.A. - BRING THE NOIZE

Finally! It’s taken her over a year to release new material, but after a prolonged wait, M.I.A. is back with the ever so tangy track from upcoming album “Matangi”. The embedded Vine clip, features a small tease into what looks like the music video to “Bring The Noize”, the next single, after last years mega hit “Bad Girls”. Also, check out a snippet of the single on the official website, with the full track being premiered tomorrow, that’s June 17, on BBC Radio 1, with Zane Lowe at 7 p.m. (GMT). Excited, isn’t the right adjective to describe my feelings at this moment in time!

In the meantime, enjoy the fabulous Matangi Mix, M.I.A. did for Kenzo a while back:

LA singer BANKS follows up the deliciously infectious “Warm Water” with an equally mysterious video to coincide. The hazy visuals mirror the delicate poignancy of the Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs produced single, where the evanescent shots of flowing water (surprise surprise) alongside the intimate connection between the singer and her lover (in this case, rapper Joon) harmoniously  merge together to create a warm, gracious atmosphere. All that, and the black and white filter epitomize BANKS’ eloquent class; the water’s definitely flowing in the right direction!

Kanye West - “Yeezus”

No single. No radio. No cover. No sleeve. No video. Nothing. Kanye West doesn’t need any of that to create a buzz over the release of his sixth-studio album “Yeezus”. Little was known about the album’s content, with speculation swirling over the internet, that is, until now.

Confirmed at a listening party earlier this week in New York, Yeezus will for sure drop June 18 and as expected, the Frank Ocean featured “New Slaves“ will be joined by the Daft Punk produced “Black Skinhead” on the album’s track-listing, alongside eight other tracks.

Enlisting respected producers Rick Rubin and Mike Dean to polish the album’s aesthetic in a race to meet the deadline, Kanye also drafted in the Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Chief Keef to feature on the same song(!), as well as sample TNGHT and Billie Holiday on the same song(!).

Finally, here’s the track-list (according to the internet):

  1. On Site (Prod. Daft Punk)
  2. Black Skinhead (Prod. Daft Punk)
  3. I am A God (Prod. Daft Punk)
  4. New Slaves feat. Frank Ocean (samples “Gyongyhaju Iany” by Omega)
  5. Can’t Hold My Liquor feat Chief Keef & Justin Vernon
  6. I’m In It feat. Justin Vernon
  7. Blood On The Leaves (Samples “Strange Fruit” by Billie Holiday) (Prod. Hudson Mohawke)
  8. Guilt Trip feat. Travis Scott
  9. Send It Up feat. King L
  10. Bound feat. Charlie Wilson (samples “Bound” contains samples of “Bound” by Ponderosa Twins Plus One and “Sweet Nothin’s” by Brenda Lee)

Unveiling the newest video to the jamming “Waste of Time”, Danish eccentricity  is seen outrageously whipping her hair being her gangster self, amidst some startling art, chainsaws, burning chairs and a lot more… Check it out above!

There’s something about French duo, Ex Guru’s pristine, yet dark “The Hunt” that had me spellbound at my first listen. The accompanying video perfectly emulates the track’s creepy yet interesting aesthetic, with glimpses of The Knife showing through in the distorted production. Check it out above!

Icelandic group Sigur Rós prolong their newly found darkness in their compilation video for “Kveikur”, taken from the same titled album (out June 18). The record’s brutal, aggressive nature is perfectly upheld with Sarah Hopper’s montage of spine-tingling explosions and dying fires; an austere concoction of intensity, perfect.

It’s creepy, it’s spooky, it’s the new Mykki Blanco video! The Harlem rapper’s is seen prowling the streets for the video to “The Initiation” taken from his new EP “Betty Rubble: The Initiation” with a face…on his head!

Watch the visual to “Fiction”, the latest track by The xx taken from their sophomore album “Coexist”. The Young Replicant directed video sees, Oliver Sim nonchalantly gazing into a mirror, meandering through a pool house and neighborhood, whilst swaying to the music as if playing the guitar; in black and white.

Woodkid, aka Yoann Lemoine, aka music director, aka graphic designer, aka singer/songwriter, returns with a refreshed single from his masterful debut “The Golden Age”. Amidst the grand production of the theatrical “I Love You”, Woodkid enlists rapper Angel Haze to provide a verse, as well as stun with some surprisingly sweet vocals. Haze steals the show with her performance, showing the control over her fierce bars and newly found, sugary voice. Stream the track above…
